ProTech and Sungard Availability Services Enable the College of Policing to Adopt a 'Digital First' Approach to Professional Development in Policing

UK's first security accredited web and CRM platform underpins College of Policing's Professional Membership Scheme

Aldridge, West Midlands, UK: 6 December, 2017 – Collaboration between ProTech and Sungard Availability Services meets the requirements of the College of Policing (the College) for a highly secure cloud-based CRM solution, to provide those working in policing with the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent crime, protect the public and secure public trust. ProTech delivers an integrated web and CRM platform combined with change management services to Not for Profit (NFP) and public sector organisations and Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS) is a leading provider of information availability through managed IT, cloud and recovery services.

ProTech’s digital platform ProWeb, integrated with its specialist CRM software captures and stores data for the College to support the dissemination of the College’s knowledge, training and standards to more than 300,000 police officers and police staff across the UK.

As part of its drive to provide flexible and personalised support to Police Officers and staff to aid their professional and career development, the College wanted to offer secure access to its online services and content.

ProTech’s ProWeb, has enabled the College to achieve this by providing access for members whilst at work via Sungard AS’ Managed Cloud Services for UK Government (a pan-European accredited ‘OFFICIAL SENSITIVE’ Platform as a Service solution) connected to the Public Services Network (PSN).

Access for members, using any mobile device outside of work, is provided via a secure internet connected platform which detects the device being used to access the College’s Membership website. To prevent unauthorised access, content and data delivered is restricted to meet the College’s security requirements.

“To meet the College’s exacting security requirements, we needed to be able to demonstrate that ProTech’s solution could meet the security standards set down by the National Accreditor and Government Digital Services,” explained Jenny Parsons, ProTech’s COO. “Sungard AS’ security expertise played a key role in successfully guiding ProTech through the complex accreditation process, at the same time as providing a secure hosted platform with an underlying cloud infrastructure accredited in line with the National Cyber Security Centre‘s 14 defined cloud security principles.”

“Many public-sector organisations, including police forces, are looking at how they can use technology, especially digital tools and cloud computing, to set high standards of professional practice, with specified criteria against which success can be measured.  Increased efficiencies, improved collaboration and ultimately enhanced front line services can be achieved at the same time as promoting ethics, values and integrity.

“ProTech understands the importance of delivering the high levels of security required within the public sector, particularly within policing. Sungard AS provided ProTech with confidence that ProTech can deliver such a CRM solution by developing a platform architected to deliver security at all levels in line with access requirements of the system’s various users. It also: deploys secure gateways (which tightly secure access and ensure separation between the Internet and higher-level security domains) that serve as a communications protocol break; a hardened ‘locked-down’ platform; proactive monitoring alerts; runs across an infrastructure within a fully-resilient data centre and is supported by a team of experts. Working together we can support organisations across the public sector throughout their digital transformation journeys,” said Kathy Schneider, Chief Marketing Officer, Sungard Availability Services.

“Our successful collaboration with Sungard AS demonstrates that by engaging with the right partners public sector organisations can not only deploy a robust and fully managed technology platform, with the necessary service level agreements (SLAs) they can have complete confidence that their security requirements for today, and importantly for tomorrow, are covered,” concluded Parsons.
